There have always been a few stand-out personalities who take large publicized gatherings as an opportunity to make a statement and express themselves thoroughly through either a verbal comment or the way they choose to dress. This year, the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards was the perfect opportunity for 25-year-old artist Doja Cat to give the audience a more direct sense of what she is all about. The young artist not only had a unique debut performance at the ceremony, but she continued to lock all eyes on her throughout the entirety of the night with her various flamboyant outfit changes.
Doja Cat went through six different outfits as the night went on. Her final one consisted of a long customized red dress before performing her hit song “Been Like” while she hung from the ceiling. Throughout her whole performance, the artist was suspended in the air as she sang and spun around inside of a big circular light fixture. Doja was also the recipient of this year’s 2021 MTV VMA for Best Collaboration. Other nominations included Cardi B/Megan Thee Stallion, iann dior/24kGoldn, Justin Bieber/Giveon/Daniel Caesar, Miley Cyrus/Dua Lipa, and Drake/Lil Durk.
One of the most eye-boggling fashion statements from Doja Cat last night consisted of what seemed to be a medieval-themed dress. The dress was cut off from the waist down and had small horses spread throughout the simple white background. Her outfit also included a brown belt with a holster for a sword. The most surprising aspect of the artist’s clothes was definitely her hat of choice, which looked to be a full-sized red chair that comfortably rested upside down on top of her head. The California rapper has undoubtedly made a name for herself at the VMAs with her unique sense of fashion and confident energy.
