A GoFundMe charity started by Damar Hamlin has accumulated nearly $6 million in donations in the midst of the cardiac arrest he experienced on Monday night versus the Cincinnati Bengals.
The community toy drive was founded by Hamlin in 2020 in order to support his mother’s daycare center in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. The fund received an influx of donations overnight, with over $10,000 coming from famed wrestler Chris Jericho. With the initial goal of raising $4,000, “The Chasing M’s Foundation Community Toy Drive” brought in about $6 million in donations following the tragic incident.
The incident happened halfway through the first quarter when Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins was tackled by Hamlin. After the play Hamlin stood up and collapsed falling backwards onto the ground. As of the publication of this article, Hamlin remains in critical condition at a local Cincinnati hospital.
