The 2021 Video Music Awards took place this past Sunday, September 12, making this the 37th annual VMAs since the first ceremony took place back in 1984 inside New York City’s Radio Music Hall. This year’s gathering took place at the Barclays Center in the heart of Brooklyn, New York where hundreds of celebrities and fans all came together to show their support. Before the commencement of the program, celebrities walked the red carpet for standard photoshoots, while providing the time and opportunity to intermingle with each other in a positive light. Unfortunately, this was not the case with all attendants.
An altercation took place before everything started on the red carpet between former UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor and rock artist and rapper Machine Gun Kelly. There has not been any concrete evidence as to what initially started the back and forth battle, however, reports do have it that McGregor had approached MGK asking to take a picture with him, resulting in the 32-year-old artist simply denied the fighters request. The interaction seemed harmless at first until their verbal back and forth arguing turned into McGregor losing his composure and throwing a punch towards MGK’s face. After failing to connect, both celebrities were held back and removed from their current location; Conor managed to get one last jab in by throwing an open water bottle on the artist before being separated to different parts of the building.
Neither of the celebrities has yet to publicly comment on the situation and judging from the alleged reason for all of this starting, it does not seem as if they will any time soon. This year’s VMAs were definitely one to remember as various celebrities popped out to make an appearance such as The Kid LAROI, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, Drake, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow, Megan Fox and so many more. The 2021 Video Music Awards was broadcasted live to all locations on cable’s MTV.
