Veteran power forward for the Los Angeles Lakers Carmelo Anthony recently had to limp off of the court in the middle of his team’s match against the Los Angeles Clippers this past Thursday, February 3, 2022. The former New York Knick reportedly suffered a hamstring injury during the first half of playtime, resulting in the superstar being unable to continue the rest of the game; the Lakers concluded the night with a 111-110 loss against their competitive opponents.
On Thursday night during the second quarter of action, Carmelo attempted a failed mid-range jump shot where he seemed to have landed in an odd way on his right leg. The Lakers medical crew then assisted No. 7 off of the floor as he walked with a limp and attended to his right hamstring. “Wherever we are at, that’s where we are going to be,” Melo stated in regards to the remainder of the season. “I think our main goal at the end of the season is to be healthy. Do I want to be in the play-in game? No. I would rather be a little more comfortable.”
According to the NBA, Anthony has played in the past 50 out of Los Angeles’ 53 regular-season games in comparison to his fellow teammates Anthony Davis and Lebron James, who combine for a total of only 68 game appearances. The 37-year-old athlete has had an impressive career and has obtained various monumental accomplishments such as receiving 3 Olympic gold medals, being a 10-time all-star, one of the ‘75 greatest NBA players of all time,’ and is the No. 9 NBA’s all-time leading scorer. Despite their recent loss, the Los Angeles Lakers currently stand at the No. 9 spot in the Western Conference and hold a slightly lopsided 25-28 record for the 2021-2022 season.
