Earlier this month, Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security reportedly fined Apple approximately 12.275 million reais (2.04 million euros). In a statement they made on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, the ministry claims that the company is discriminating against its users by not selling the power adapter along with the cellular device, an “incomplete product” – Apple previously decided to separately sell charges with their newest iPhone product. In addition to the lawsuit, Brazil has officially confirmed the expulsion of all iPhones throughout the country; reports claim that selling the product will soon be considered a crime.
Lisa Jackson, vice president of environment, policy, and social initiatives, recently spoke on the corporation’s recent decision at Apple’s 2020 September keynote: “Sometimes it is not what we make, but what we do not make that counts… We are confident that our customers are aware of the various options for charging and connecting their devices.” As a result of Apple’s change in production, the Brazilian union recently agreed to demand that all electronic devices be distributed with a common USB-C charging cable earlier this past year.
