In honor of Father’s Day, Bobby Shmurda held what he called a “Fathers Day Give Back Brunch” in the heart of Brooklyn this past Sunday. Mainly provided for fathers and their children, the event supplied every person with not only free meals but haircuts as well. While attracting a total of over 200 deprived local families, Bobby felt this action was necessary after being one of the many kids in America to grow up without a male figure.
The New York rapper was recently released from prison on February 23, 2021. After being sentenced to seven years in prison, but over time being reduced to just five years, he gained a new perspective on life which would encourage the “Fathers Day Give Back” idea in the first place.
Even though he was born in Miami, Florida Bobby and his mother moved to Brooklyn when he was just one year old after his father’s incarceration. Needless to say, he was raised as a Brooklyn native which only makes it right for him to hold this affair in his hometown. Taking the step to making his guests ‘feel their best’ he hired three of his best barbers to bless families with fresh haircuts. This of course happens after filling their stomachs with delicious and fresh Caribbean food such as curried chickpeas, mac and cheese, jerk salmon, stewed chicken, mixed veggies, and plenty more.
Every child in attendance left with a full stomach and something they didn’t possess when they arrived. Bobby was giving out footballs, board games, jump ropes, action figures, costumes, and even gaming consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox 1. As for where all of the fathers received educational books and new clothes. Leaving nothing to waste, all of the leftover food and beverages were donated to CAMBA Men’s Shelter in Brooklyn.
