In just her first season as head coach for the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, Becky Hammon managed to take home the well-deserved WNBA Coach of the Year award. With this accomplishment, Hammon becomes the first-ever former WNBA player to receive this milestone in her debut season as she aligns with her fellow WNBA stars turned coaches, Suzie McConnell-Serio (2004) and Sandy Brondello (2014).
Throughout the 2021-’22 season, Hammon successfully led her franchise in holding the No. 1 overall record, being No. 1 in scoring/offensive efficiency, having the second-best winning percentage by a rookie head coach in WNBA history, gaining a franchise record for wins in a single season, and becoming the Commissioner’s Cup Champions. Hammon currently obtains a meaningful eight years of experience as a professional basketball coach, beginning her career as an assistant coach for the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs back in 2014. It was not long before she would move up to become the head coach for San Antonio in 2020, before happily transferring over to the Aces just a year later.
