A beach in Iowa closed after brain-eating amoeba was confirmed in Missouri. According to reports, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources announced the temporary closure is a precautionary response to a confirmed infection of Naegleria Fowleri in a Missouri resident who had recent exposure while swimming at the beach at Lake of Three Fires State Park.
Tests to confirm the presence of the “brain-eating amoeba” are being conducted in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and could take several days to complete. Authorities will share test updates as soon as possible.
