NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has stated that any potential punishment for Memphis Grizzlies player Ja Morant will not be announced until after the NBA Finals. During a press conference prior to Game 1 between the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat, Silver revealed that the league has gathered significant additional information regarding the Morant situation. While they could have resolved the matter immediately, they have chosen to wait out of respect for the players and teams involved in the pursuit of the Larry O’Brien trophy.
Ja Morant was suspended by the Memphis Grizzlies last month after he allegedly displayed a gun on Instagram Live. This incident occurred just two months after he received an eight-game suspension for a previous offense, which involved brandishing a firearm in a Denver strip club and posting about it on social media.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver acknowledged his one-on-one meeting with Morant after the initial incident during an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews. He stated that they did not discuss the possibility of a recurrence because the severity of the first offense made it clear that such behavior was unacceptable.
