According to reports on Monday, Larry Nassar, a convicted child molester serving a lengthy prison sentence for sexually assaulting gymnasts, including Olympic medalists, was stabbed multiple times in federal prison. The incident occurred on Sunday during a fight with another inmate at the United States Penitentiary Coleman in Florida, as shared by two sources familiar with the matter. Nassar was stabbed in the back and chest but is reportedly in stable condition, according to one of the sources.
More than 300 girls and women, including prominent Olympians such as Aly Raisman and Simone Biles, bravely came forward with accusations against Nassar. They alleged that he sexually abused them under the pretext of medical treatment, revealing a pattern of horrifying abuse that spanned many years. Nassar eventually admitted to sexually assaulting athletes both at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics, the organization responsible for training Olympic athletes. His actions exposed the systemic failures in safeguarding the well-being and safety of athletes and led to a profound reckoning within the gymnastics community.
