On May 11, 2022, Atlanta-born artists Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, Gunna, and Jeffery Lamar Williams, Young Thug, were suddenly arrested for their alleged “participation in street gang activity and conspiring to violate the state’s RICO Act,” according to legal documents. Ever since then, their wide fan base along with the entire music community has been beaming with support and hoping for their swift return home.
However, as of this past Wednesday, January 11, 2023, fellow Atlanta rapper and close companion to YSL, Lil Gotit, unexpectedly unfollowed Gunna on his Instagram account. Without an explanation, some fans are taking it upon themselves to draw their own conclusions based on Gunna’s recent release from the Fulton County Jail (Dec. 14).
Shortly after their arrest and within just seven months of their individual sentences, Gunna took an Alford plea – a deal allowing the defendant to plead guilty if it is in their best interest while still conserving their innocence – pleading guilty to one charge of racketeering conspiracy. The judge swiftly went on to switch the Drip Too Hard rapper’s five-year prison sentence to a four-year time-served deal on top of an additional 500 hours of community service; his sentence will be officially terminated after the completion of his required community service.
Considering Gunna was able to walk out of the courtroom and is currently a so-called free man while Thug is still sitting behind bars in Cobb County Jail, it appears that fans have logical grounds to conclude this specific reason to be why other artists are seeming to separate themselves from Kitchens. Following his recent eight months in legal custody, Williams’s long-awaited trial finally commenced this past Monday, January, 9 as his fans, friends, and family all suspensefully wait in hopes of his safe return.
