A Tennessee mother of two young children became the most recent victims of a brutal pit bull attack this past Thursday, October 6. The tragic incident occurred at a local home just north of the Memphis area with reports claiming that the two family pet dogs unexpectedly charged Kirstie Jane Bennard (30) and killed both of her kids. Close friends and family members showed their genuine surprise towards the unsettling situation by expressing how the pit bulls, Mia and Cheech, “have been a part of the family for over eight years without a violent incident.”

After arriving on the scene, officials of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the death of the two defenseless children, a 5-month-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, along with transporting the traumatized mother to the nearest hospital in critical condition; she is currently in “stable condition with an uncountable amount of stitches and bite marks over her entire body, including her face,” according to Jeff Gibson – the uncle of Kirstie’s husband, Colby Bennard.

An open investigation is presently taking place in an attempt to indicate what exactly made the pit bulls attack their seemingly loving and harmless owners, however, authorities swiftly reported the euthanization of the sporadic animals after clearing the scene of the crime. “As of right now it looks like there isn’t any permanent damage other than a heart that will never heal,” Gibson’s latest Facebook post reads.

In accordance with the statistics from a nonprofit organization that tracks the number of annual dog bites in the United States, Dogsbite.org, this blameless family of four is the latest to join in the unfortunate group of being one of the educationally estimated 40 fatal dog attacks throughout 2022 alone. In light of recent events, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reminded the dog owners community that 1 out of 5 people must seek necessary medical attention after dog bites.
