Published exclusively to Netflix on September 21, 2022, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has swiftly grown into becoming the platform’s most talked-about crime series before even a full month of its release. Being based on true events, the one-season series tells the disturbing and detailed behind-the-scenes situations that lead to the 14-year killer spree of the Ohio-born mass murderer, Jeffery Dahmer. Being just 34-year-old at the time of his death in prison, the criminal was known for luring young men into his apartment as he would plan to rape, kill, and then rape his victim again.

Being that Dahmer, a male, was sexually attracted to other men, Netflix tagged the series in its LGBTQ section, understandably due to the show containing physically intimate male sex scenes. However, the LGBTQ community did not take too fond of the platform categorizing Dahmer, leading to a surplus of backlash and criticism towards the widely-used streaming service. In light of the transparent disapproval, Netflix has now cautiously removed its newest program from the LGBTQ category, allowing the show to be considered and described as a strict true-crime series. The limited-run Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story series currently withholds a well-earned 8.3 out of 10 stars on IMDb’s official website rating, on top of an impressive 53% on Rotten Tomatoes.
