Occurring this past Monday, July 4, 2022, a previously unidentified person delivered a mass shooting at a local Independence Day parade in the Highland Park, Illinois area. After a lengthy 9-hour manhunt, authorities reported that they officially picked up suspect Robert E. Crimo III who matched every description witnesses had to offer; Crimo would soon admit to being the man behind the gun and causing a total of seven deaths to innocent bystanders of his horrific actions. The Highland Park Police Department claimed that the criminal wore women’s clothes as an attempted disguise, before eventually ditching the outfit and blending back in with the crowd.

Crime scene examiners reported that the shooter unleashed approximately 80 rounds of ammunition during his unexplainable attack on the innocent. Consciously murdering seven people and injuring over two dozen others, Robert ‘Bobby’ Crimo is currently in police custody on top of facing seven counts of first-degree murder – one charge for each life that he did not have the right to take. Police found the armed man in Madison, Wisconsin where they assume he was planning on opening fire once again due to having another loaded weapon (rifle) in the back of the vehicle that he was operating.

“We are a vibrant and welcoming city, and I am sure there were several events going on throughout the day,” Chief of Police Shon Barnes stated to his town. “We will never know for certain what stopped him, but I am thankful that no innocent lives were taken from our city.” Madison mayor, Satya Rhodes-Conway also vocalized her opinion on the prevented tragedy: “He drove past hundreds of communities celebrating the 4th of July, all of us are at risk… It does not have to be this way. We can make different choices.” With the future looking bleak for Robert Crimo, the world continues to send its prayers to the families who lost their loved ones this past Independence Day.
