Maury Povich’s popular talk show, Maury, originally aired on national television back in 1991. The show organically obtained an approximate total of 1.6 million daily viewers throughout the entirety of 2019 and 2020. However, as of this past Monday, March 21, 2022, the program gave the official announcement that they will be taking the talk show off the air and canceling it indefinitely. EVP at NBCUniversal Synsication Studios, Tracie Wilson, recently gave a public statement on the cancellation of this specific show.
“Maury and I decided two years ago that this season would be the farewell season for the show, and while his retirement is bittersweet, we are so happy for him to be able to spend more time on the golf course,” she stated. “Maury is a television icon, a pop culture legend and we could not be more proud to have been a part of his incredible career.” Maury has been airing on national television for 30 full seasons.
Povich himself gave a more detailed explanation on the ending of his program shortly after the abrupt information was made public. “Six years ago when I was ready to retire, my NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show,” he claimed. “Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal. I am so proud of my relationship with NBC Universal and all those who worked on the Maury show but as I occasionally tell my guests on Maury, ‘Enough, already!’” It’s always sad to see good things come to an end, but it is safe to say that Povich has had a successful TV career and is ready to relax ‘on the golf course.’
