Karl-Anthony Towns Wins NBA 3-point Contest, Claims Best Big Man Shooter Of All Time

Star center for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Karl-Anthony Towns, has just broken a 10-year streak by officially becoming the first big man to win the NBA 3-point contest since Kevin Love back in 2012. Towns was among seven other people who decided to take a shot at this year’s annual event including Desmond Bane (Memphis Grizzlies), Luke Kennard (Los Angeles Clippers), Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks), CJ McCollum (New Orleans Pelicans), Fred VanVleet (Toronto Raptors), Patty Mills (Brooklyn Nets) and Zach LaVine (Chicago Bulls). Taking place this past Saturday, February 20, 2022, the affair came down to Trae Young and Luke Kennard who both up 26 points, before the 6 foot 11 inch athlete stepped in to obtain a winning total of 29 points. 

With this score, the Timberwolves big man surpassed Devin Booker’s previous total of 28 points which won him the event last year. Karl confidently went on to shoot 4 of 5 from the first corner, 5 of 5 from the first wing, 4 of 5 from the middle, 4 of 5 from the second wing, and 2 of 5 from the final spot while also sinking the extra money ball. The 26-year-old all-star stated how one of his career goals is to solidify himself as the best big man shooter to ever play the game of basketball, and with this specific performance it seems as if he is well on his way to accomplishing that dream. 

Ever since he was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the first round of the 2015 NBA draft, Towns has not only made a name for himself in the league as a big man, but he has also made a successful total of 739 3-pointers throughout his professional career. At the conclusion of last season, the star Timberwolf shot an impressive 40.1% from behind the arc, while also aiding in his team’s stance in the league by contributing his hard earned 24.4 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 4.0 apg and 1.1 bpg. As of this year, the Minnesota Timberwolves currently sit at the No. 7 spot in the Western Conference directly above the Los Angeles Clippers and below the Denver Nuggets.
