UFC265 took place on June 10, 2021, withholding various fights that provided fans with unexpected outcomes. The fight that everyone was waiting to watch, the main event, Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor was both the most shocking and disappointing fight of them all. Leading up to this heated match-up between these two dangerous human beings was an all-out verbal battle in which both sides promised to not only defeat their opponent but to put them to sleep as well.
This past Saturday night was the third time McGregor and Dustin stepped foot in the octagon together. In their first match, McGregor was able to achieve the win after officials called the match due to a TKO provided by the Notorious athlete himself. In what he made seem like was an easy victory for him, he accepted Poirier’s rematch offer and the two competitive fighters would go at each other for a second time. Dustin would shock the world by gaining the upper hand on McGregor with multiple shots to the head during the second round, which resulted in a TKO victory for the underestimated athlete.
Now finally reaching what we thought would be the last fight between these two Lightweight competitors did not end as everyone thought it would. The fight lasted only one full round before McGregor went to the floor after missing a punch and his ankle seeming to buckle. The athlete stayed on the ground attending to his injured ankle which compelled the official to end the fight due to TKO; giving Poirier his second victory in this trilogy match-up within the span of under six months.
As the favorite in this fight was still on the ground, he was heard screaming at the referee to call the match due to a “doctor’s stoppage” and not a TKO. Transparently upset that he was unable to back up all of the trash talks he has been spewing out, McGregor apparently threatened Dustin after the match to which he rightly responded by saying, “We will be fighting again whether it’s in the octagon or on the street…You don’t say the things he said.”
