Last month, the Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted the Met Gala in which many celebrities showed up to support one of the biggest fashion exhibits in the world. Personalities such as Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Justin Bieber, Rhianna, and even Elon Musk attended in extraordinary outfits that appealed to the eyes of viewers everywhere. However, the most noticeable outfit of the night had to be A$AP Rocky who showed up with his newly announced girlfriend, Barbados-born singer Rhianna. Both artists are already highly known for their natural-born musical talents throughout the past 2 decades of their careers while also taking a dip into the fashion industry as well.

A$AP Rocky arrived in Manhattan, New York wearing what appeared to be a thick multi-colored blanket. This turned out to be somewhat correct after he announced that it was a “quilt-style cape designed by Eli Russell Linnetz.” Linnetz explained to a reporter how the Harlem rapper previously visited him and quickly “gravitated to a giant quilt in the ERL spring collection.” The power couple attracted an enormous sum of attention with Rocky’s unique fashion choice and Rhianna’s all-black colorway, along with her one-of-a-kind headpiece and personal jewelry.

However, A$AP’s brightly colored cape turned out to seemingly be just as average as your everyday hoodie. After photos were released of the attendees at the Met Gala, a fan uploaded a post onto their Instagram account, along with a caption that read: “So my great grandmother’s quilt was donated to an antique/thrift store a while back. When I saw the Met Gala photo I realized instantly that it had to be the same quilt. I read the Vogue article about the designer finding the quilt in Southern California and with his office not that far from us in Venice, California, I demanded that my mom go look for the photos of it on our own bed. Looks like grandma Mary went to the Met Gala.” The quilt was reportedly chosen by the designer due to its genuine “historical connection to the American experience.”
