Currently claiming the position as the wealthiest person in the world is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos who recently returned to earth after officially winning the “space race” between Elon Musk and himself. With this huge milestone finally out of the way, Bezos now has more time on his hands to back up the former financial commitments he has made to select corporations. Last year, Bezos gave his word that he will donate a total of $10 billion towards all aspects of climate change and it now seems as if he is taking the first steps into keeping his word.

The multi-billionaire recently made it public that he will begin following through with his promise by spending $1 billion to “create, expand, manage, and monitor protected and conserved areas,” on behalf of the Bezos Earth Fund. “Nature is our life support system and it’s fragile,” he stated at an exclusive press conference. “I was reminded of this just this July when I went to space with Blue Origin. I’d heard that seeing earth from space changes one’s point of view on the world, but I was not prepared for just how much that would be true.” As of right now, there has been no specific information released as to what individual organizations the Amazon founder will be donating to.

However, the Bezos Earth Fund did selectively mention various locations that they would like to bring help to such as the Congo Basin, the Andes in South America, and the Pacific Ocean. Jeff has already started the process on his end by making slight adjustments to the way his online shopping giant disposes of their toxic wastes, while also decreasing the companies main dependence on fossil fuels. As Jeff Bezos works to fully commit to his previously made promise to help conserve our environment it is clear that he is gaining a new appreciation from the world he lives in, while undoubtedly aiming to clean up the mess he contributed to.
