Texas border protection officials have just stumbled upon the largest cocaine bust over the past 20 years. Occurring this past Friday, September 9, 2022, approximately $11.8 million of cocaine was uncovered near Laredowhen at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge. Border officers reportedly found the large-scale product after searching a truck containing solely baby wipes.
“Officers assigned to CBP cargo facilities ensure effective border security by preventing and countering the flow of suspected narcotics entering the country,” Port Director Alberto Flores stated. “This seizure is a prime example of border security management and how it helps prevent dangerous narcotics from reaching our communities.”
1,935 sealed packages of cocaine, disguised as baby wipes, were weighed out to be a total of 1,532.65 pounds equalling an estimated street value of the previously determined $11,818,400. The unexpected bust is being called a “colossal, record-setting seizure” by the director of field operations for the CPB’s Laredo field office, Randy Howe.
